Life Story

James was born on the 31st of October 1952 into a family of 2 Girls. More siblings were to follow in the form of 3 brothers and 2 sisters making the Boyle Family 3 Boys and 4 Girls. Sadly 2 of the boys died as babies. Dad's family is Eileen, Bridie, John, Mary Teresa and Dolores. The babies names were Danny Anthony and Neil Martin, may they rest.

James Mum was Maria Boyle and his dad was Fred Boyle Feragal ( Big Fred) who passed away on 12th April 1996 aged 94.

James was raised in Lochanure. He was a fisherman by trade and spent many years on the high seas, working for others and also having his own boat at one stage.

In the later part of his life he worked for JMSE structural engineering as a site foreman. He ovesaw many large projects including the new stadium in Old Trafford and the New Croke Park. He was a Blackburn supporter which he got a lot of slagging for. He travelled a lot with his work but when he was at home he was heavilly involved in community groups including The Mullaghduff Band (of which he was a member) and The Mullaghduff Community Centre of which he was chairman.

In 1974 he married Anne Gillespie and he had 3 children with her, Elaine, Gavin (Me) and Laura. He was a very devoted father and looked after us all very well. We lived in Mullaghduff all our lives which was brilliant.

Dad also ran Bonners bar in mullaghduff from 1986-1989. He did very well in the pub and was a true publican. There are plenty of stories about Dad in the pub.

When dad died he was working with JMSE at Dublin Airport. I still pass the place he died and can see it every time I arrive and leave the airport. His memory will stay with me forever.

He is very missed by us all and there is not a day that goes by that we dont miss and remember him. RIP Dad.

Shared Memories

bonners  from rosaleen duffy

i remember james most for the crac in bonners until the early hours and him singing the flight of earls-those were the days great music, great people and the best of fun.

Leaving Home  from Eileen MacPhie

When I first left home in Loughanure to go to Glasgow, my younger brother James begged me to stay and he would buy a bike for me to work in the Crolly Factory (he was about 12 years old).

He was always winding me up as we grew up together and he was the only one allowed to call me Nellie!

Still missed and always will be.

Finding us in Mayo  from Mary Kearns

We had just moved to Westport from Dublin to Westport. Nobody knew our address and we had no phone line. A knock came to the door on our first week there was James with bottle of brandy in his hand. I was never so glad to see anybody in my life. He had followed a car with somebody who was driving to Cloona, which he vaguely thought was our address. He drove around the townland looking for clues and finally saw my son Michael looking out a window. Needless to say the brandy got short shrift! Fondly remembered and always missed by Pat and Mary

My Wedding Day  from Lorna O'Donnell

The photo of james above was taken on my wedding day and I still have a smile and laugh when I think of the two of us doing a bit of an irish dance and him swinging me round so hard i thought he was going to tear the arms off my wedding dress!! We laughed so much. He will always be special to me.

Mullaghduff Band  from michael and annemari gillespie

Always a great loyal bandman and always sadly missed by Family and the BAND on St Patricks Day and Easter Sunday....his musical talent and personality created a huge void on those special days
Rest in Peace Buddy
Michael and Anne marie

St. Patrick's Day  from Dolores O'Reilly

St. Patrick’s Day

As a child I wore a green badge
My father and brothers wore shamrock,
Searching fields coming in with fistfuls of clover,
Only to be sent back out again for ‘The Real Thing’.
Why didn’t this Saint pick daffodils?
It would have been so much easier,
New clothes, mass, and sweets, bands
And music and parades.

But I never seen a parade so long
As the day we said our final goodbye,
Rival bands, golf and football clubs
Stood shoulder to shoulder
As you passed by in your Sunday best
Heads hung low, like daffodils in the rain,
The line of cars was endless,
The air was heavy with sadness,
Patrick’s Day holds a different meaning now,
This day will forever remind me of you
James & Daffodils.

Good Friday Party  from Sadie Sharkey

At one particular party he kept me going with brandy and when that ran out he changed it to whiskey. I was so ill the next day.
We also had a good country night in the school in Mullaghduff, line dancing and jiving. X

A True Gentleman  from bried maguire

This page is a very fitting tribute to one of life's true gentlemen! I remember James as always smiling and never had a bad word to say about anyone. My favourite memory of James was listening to him sing Matt Hyland and I never hear that song without thinking of him.Rest in peace James and I'm sure you are singing with the angels. Well done with this tribute Gavin, he would be so proud.
